ABOUT ME

headshot 6.jpg

My career has been driven by my desire to understand people’s diverse cultural experiences. At the age of 19, I switched my undergraduate major from Biology to Cultural Anthropology and haven’t looked back since!

Over the course of 12 years, I've worked as a Cultural Anthropologist across multiple industries and become well-versed in qualitative and quantitative methods, including ethnographic interviews, participant observation, photo elicitation, oral histories, and surveys.

Since 2006, I’ve conducted ethnographic research in India. I’ve worked with communities of Muslim artisans who produce intricate textiles made with metallic wires. Throughout my research, I’ve explored how globalization and the restructuring of economies in the 21st century has impacted the most marginalized members of society. My interest in visual culture has continued through my work in Detroit, Michigan where I’m researching how the intersection of art and technology is becoming key to the city’s revival.

I’ve also had opportunities to put my research skills to use in other industries. I’ve worked on international development projects that, for instance, required me to interview women and children on the Indo-Nepal border who are especially vulnerable to human trafficking. Another project required me to conduct surveys and interviews with impoverished textile manufacturers in Central India to get a better understanding of what market linkages and resources were lacking. I’ve also worked on a range of market research projects, where clients needed my skills as an ethnographer to better understand and analyze the cultural worlds of customers, including their specific needs and expectations.

Aside from work, I’m an enthusiastic home cook, a motorcycle fan, a former varsity tennis player who is still trying to improve her serve, and a nature-lover.
